Delhaize expands in Kirchberg with a new Proxy store
Delhaize is continuing its expansion in Luxembourg with the takeover of a store located in Kirchberg. The retailer will reopen the location as a Proxy Delhaize in September following several weeks of refurbishment.
With a sales area of 238 m², the store will offer more than 2,000 products as well as a range focused on immediate consumption. Customers will find freshly baked bread prepared on-site every day, ready-to-eat meals and various solutions tailored to the needs of an urban customer base.
The store is located in one of the country's most dynamic districts, where offices, residential buildings and services coexist. For Delhaize, this acquisition strengthens its presence in a high-potential area and helps meet the growing demand for convenience retail.
The store is expected to employ around ten people when it reopens.

This takeover also marks the disappearance of the last Carrefour store operating in Luxembourg.
The location offers an interesting profile. I am often in the area when in Luxemburg. Situated in a relatively discreet street in Kirchberg, not far from the hospital, it nevertheless benefits from steady foot traffic thanks to the concentration of office buildings and the presence of several restaurants and foodservice outlets nearby.
In my opinion, the future Proxy Delhaize will need to position itself primarily as a true convenience store, with a strong focus on snacking, ready-to-eat meals and quick food solutions. Much of the local customer base consists of office workers looking for practical lunch options and last-minute purchases.
For larger grocery shopping trips, consumers already have access to a hypermarket and a well-developed shopping centre within a very short distance. As a result, differentiation will depend more on convenience, speed and a strong on-the-go offer.
