EuroFoodArt exhibits at Horeca Expo
The European campaign EuroFoodArt continues its mission to promote products bearing the PDO and PGI labels. During the Horeca Expo trade show, from November 16 to 19 in Ghent, visitors will be able to discover and taste high-quality products from our regions.
European excellence, an art in itself
Under the slogan “European excellence is an art,” the EuroFoodArt campaign celebrates the know-how and rich food heritage of Europe.
Its goal: to remind people of the value of Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI), true guarantees of quality and authenticity.
These labels, recognized by the European Union, certify both the quality of the products and their regional roots. As a reminder:
- The PGI ensures that at least one stage of production, processing, or preparation takes place in the area of origin.
- The PDO goes further, requiring that all stages follow strict specifications and occur within a defined geographical area.
These distinctions are not just logos: they embody stories of terroir, families, and artisans.
Local PDO and PGI products in the spotlight
Wallonia currently has 13 products with PDO or PGI certification. Among them:
- Ardenne Butter PDO
- Herve Cheese PDO
- Crémant de Wallonie PDO
- Côtes de Sambre et Meuse Wine PDO
- Walloon Quality Sparkling Wine PDO
- Wine from the Pays des Jardins de Wallonie PGI
- Gaumais Sausage PGI
- Gaumais Pâté PGI
- Ardenne Sausage PGI (my favorite)
- Ardenne Ham PGI
- Chimay Escavèche PGI
- Plate de Florenville PGI
- And since this year, Walloon Honey PGI has joined this fine list of exceptional products.
So many specialties that reflect the regional know-how and gastronomic diversity of our territories.
So why mention them again? For professionals in retail and foodservice, these products offer undeniable added value. They guarantee not only recognized quality but also a story to share with customers. In a market where consumers increasingly seek authenticity and transparency, these labels are powerful drivers of commercial differentiation.
An unmissable event at Horeca Expo
Once again this year, the EuroFoodArt campaign will be present at Horeca Expo, from November 16 to 19 at Flanders Expo in Ghent. Wallonia’s PDO and PGI products will be showcased at stands CP11 and 12, in the heart of the Chef’s Place area.
Professional visitors will be able to meet representatives of the sectors, taste the products, and discuss their origins, production, and uses in foodservice.
The EuroFoodArt campaign reminds us that behind every PDO or PGI label lies a territory, expertise, and passion. So, if you are attending Horeca Expo, don’t miss stands CP11 and 12 to (re)discover the culinary treasures of our regions.
I’ll be there too… perhaps we’ll run into each other!
