Proxy Delhaize Braives sets an example in terms of sustainability
Proxy Delhaize Braives has become an example of sustainability following its reopening in mid-September. The store has undergone a number of transformations, but has also taken the opportunity to improve its energy consumption by investing in more environmentally-friendly techniques and tools.
Indeed, Maxime Beauduin, the operator of Proxy Delhaize Braives, is passionate about sustainable development. He has renovated his store and integrated innovative techniques to make it an example of an ecological supermarket.
Maxime Beauduin explains: "In fact, for over 3 years, we have been analyzing and carrying out work to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. Our project enables us to reduce our electricity consumption by 70% compared to a store without photovoltaic panels, and by 50% when the store has photovoltaic panels."
Consumption at Proxy Braives is now 160,000Kwh, which is considerably less than the 500,000Kwh average for a Delhaize store of similar size.
Key figures and investments
To complete this project, several Belgian companies were approached and investments were made to reduce energy consumption:
- Photovoltaic panels (production 190,000 Kwh)
- LED lighting, generating savings of 30,000 kWh
- A new ammonia/glycol water refrigeration system (higher efficiency and 100% green fluid)
- Cold water batteries 2 X 5000L (10,000L)
- 8 electric batteries for a total of 144Kwh
- Electrical terminals
- Automation of the entire management system
For the operator, the efforts, thoughts and investments made should serve as a basis for thinking about future concepts.
