How is the use of bottled water in vending?
Recently, the European Vending & Coffee Service Association (EVA) published a new report on the use of bottled water in Vending. Now, that is a good question.
Sustainability is a high priority for consumers and manufacturers, the use of plastic is pointed as a colossal cause of trouble for the environment. But when it comes to bottled water for example, how is it really going on? This new report from EVA actually looks at how water is currently provided in the industry and if consumer preferences are changing.
Well, it is quite interesting to learn among other things that:
- Over half of operators say sales of bottled water has increased in the last 5 years;
- 42% of operators say PET bottles are the only format for bottled water in their machines, but this varies in different markets;
- PET bottles are indeed the most common format of delivering bottled water, other means are cans, glass bottles and cartons (such as Tetra-Pak)
- Almost half of operators say that there has been an increased demand from clients for water dispensers.
Obviously, the numbers vary from country to country. One of the aspects playing a role is policy restrictions which are different in every region.
