ISM 2019 confirms as I told you

ISM 2019 confirms as I told you

As usual, but nicer layout

At the end of January I took the time to visit the ISM. As usual I have to share with you my findings and some of the highlights from my yearly adventures in the land of sweets and snacks.

This year’s edition seemed to be normal, yet I felt the layout was a bit different, as there seemed to be more space between booths and hallways.

In terms of numbers not much changed compared to last year. The show welcomed approximately 38000 trade visitors from over 140 countries and 1661 exhibitors from 76 countries (previous year: 1,656 exhibitors from 73 countries).

Still with the layout, I noticed a nice positive change in the way the organisers presented the New Product Showcase. The space this year was more colourful and more inviting to visit. However the contest didn’t celebrate amazing innovations if you ask me. (see following post on these pages).

The other dedicated areas or Highlights such as the Coffee Forum or the Trend Court@ISM for example, were also quite well organised and worth a visit.

Confirmation of trends

In terms of trends, I told you at the beginning of this year that I expected 2019 to be a year of confirmation for many of last year’s trends. And at ISM one could notice I was right. Many exhibitors presented goods and innovations aiming to answer consumer needs for custom-made products. Manufacturers took into account the demand for products offering characteristics such as gluten free, lactose free, sugar free, organic etc. Also I noticed quite a lot of products claiming to be healthy and sustainable choices.

ISM 50

You can already note the dates for next year. The show will come back from the 2ndto the 5thof February 2020. It will also celebrate a special birthday. Next year the 50thISM is scheduled to take place.  Of course, ProSweets Cologne, the supplier fair for the sweets and snacks industry, will once again be held parallel to ISM 2020
