Final Report of ISM 2017
Due to travelling, I didn’t make it to the 47th ISM this year. However my sources updated me about what happened at the show and sent me some information.
The attendance was high as usual
Both ISM and Prosweets took place in Cologne at the end of January during four days. ISM organisers are Koelnmesse and its industry sponsor, the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (AISM) task force. The shows welcomed:
- For ISM
- almost 38,000 trade visitors from over 140 countries
- and 1,649 exhibitors from 68 countries
- For ProSweets
- 17,000 trade visitors from over 100 countries
According to Katharina C. Hamma, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH: "ISM once again confirmed its international position as a global platform for the sweets trade. Furthermore, we were able to further reinforce our position with a slight growth in the number of exhibitors.”
The trends of 2017
It’s an international show, and therefore the topics of Brexit and the possible trade restrictions by the USA were hot topics.
Bastian Fassin, Chairman of the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair Task Force (ASIM) commented: “ISM is the central hub for the national and international business. The exports are not only of great significance for the German industry. The entire sweets and snacks business has an international alignment."
Many individual tendencies that were aimed at different target groups were recognizable. "Something for all tastes" is the motto of the flexible and innovative industry that relies above all on one aspect: Enjoyment and taste. This is why sugar-reduced, vegan or vegetarian sweets, bakery products and snacks primarily have to also please the taste buds of the consumers, as various surveys underlined.
The ISM Award
Gota Morinaga, Representative Director, Representative Chairman of Morinaga Co. Ltd from Japan received the ISM Award. This prize pays tribute to exceptional services to the sweets and snacks industry.
The New Product Showcase
The following three products were voted the top three innovations of this year's ISM by the visitors:
- Bad Luck Cookies by Pechkeks GmbH
- Organic Veggie Box by my ChipsBox GmbH
- Pralibel Dômes by Pralibel NV.
The ISM Packaging award
This award was conferred for the first time this year and went to the Barbecue Marshmallow Grill Bag by tri d’Aix GmbH.
The 48th ISM is scheduled to take place from 28 to 31 January 2018. Looking at the dates of Chinese New Year, I should be able to make it.
